A good, qualified bass teacher should enjoy teaching students of all ages and abilities, both privately and within schools.  Keeping an open mind is vital, teachers can actually learn a lot from their students as well as their students learning a lot from them. Each lesson should be an experience in which both student and tutor work together as a team, with the right combination of enjoyment, passion and hard work, you will achieve the right results.

All areas should be covered from basics, theory, to improvisation and performance and anything in between! Every student should have their own ambition and goal.

You should be able to tailor your lessons to each students’ needs, whether it’s following a strict syllabus i.e. in preparation for a graded exam, or less formally. It should depend on what the student wishes to achieve from their instrument lessons as everyone is different; some are very serious about their lessons whereas others just want to have a bit of fun, so it’s important to be patient and flexible.
